Pastoral Letter - May 2022
Dear Friends in Christ,
The church dedicates the month of May to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary, the most perfect of all creatures, has been given to us as our Mother. Because she is our Mother, we must place all our trust in her.
“Behold, your mother” (John 19:27). These were Jesus’ last words to Saint John. This Apostle and Evangelist, eminent for chastity and apostolic zeal, is one of our most perfect models of the Christian life. Let us profit from his example and take on his sentiments. He accepted his adoption with the deepest respect: “And from that hour the disciple took her into his home” (John 19:27).
We, too, must receive Mary into our life. Everything we have must belong to her, not as an owner but by virtue of her being our Mother. Besides, since Mary is our Mother, we must entrust everything to her, especially our worries and illnesses. In the past centuries she has chosen to express her motherly love by healing a multitude of bodily ailments, can we doubt that she is ready to heal the illnesses of our soul?
Mary holds in her powerful hands the remedy for every spiritual weakness. She has at her bequest the blood of Jesus Christ through whom the entire human race is not only healed but also restored to life. That is why we shall go to Mary and say to her: “O Mary, heal me if I am ill; restore me to life if I am dead; but above all let your motherly love enfold me because I want to be your child.”
May is also the month that we express our special thanks and dear love to our earthly mother, living or dead. Mother’s Day is a time to honor all mothers for their sacrifice and dedication in delivering all of us into the world. We often forget how essential mothers are to the world, sometimes taking them for granted. Mothers are our nurturers and educators, guiding us through our very first steps of life. So important are they that our Savior Jesus Christ was given the gift of a mother’s love throughout His life.
We should all be thankful for these women in our lives and the guidance they have provided us. The love of a mother is truly a blessing that goes ignored much too often. Let us show our thanks for their sacrifice, knowing that our lives are far better because of them.
If you are blessed to still have your mother with you, take some time this Mother’s Day next weekend May 8th to thank your mother for all that she has done for you. Mothers, enjoy your special day. Children, take the time to make this day unforgettable for your mom.
Mary, Mother of mothers, we honor you on your special month. Help us to be servants as you were and carry the life of Jesus within us always. Help us to model our lives after yours; to become loving; to love the unlovable; to be closer to you; to have greater trust; to love our wayward families; to become caring and serving to all those we affect in our daily lives. Amen.

Estimados Amigos en Cristo,
La iglesia dedica el mes de Mayo a la Santísima Virgen María. María, la más perfecta de todas las criaturas, ha sido para todos nosotros como nuestra madre. Porque ella es nuestra madre, debemos poner toda nuestra confianza en ella.
“Ahí tienes a tu madre” (Juan 19:27). Estas fueron las últimas palabras de Jesús a San Juan. Este Apóstol y evangelista, eminente por castidad y celo apostólico, es uno de nuestros modelos más perfectos de la vida cristiana. Aprovechemos su ejemplo y asumamos sus sentimientos. Él aceptó su adopción con el más profundo respeto: “Y desde entonces, ese discípulo la recibió en su casa” (Juan 19:27).
También debemos recibir a María en nuestra vida. Todo lo que tenemos debe pertenecer a ella, no como dueña sino por la virtud de ser nuestra madre. Además, desde que María es nuestra madre, debemos confiar todo a ella, especialmente nuestras preocupaciones y enfermedades.
María tiene en sus poderosas manos el remedio para cada debilidad espiritual. Ella tiene en su legado la sangre de Jesucristo a través de la cual, a toda la raza humana, no sólo sana sino también ha restaurado la vida. Es decir, por qué vamos a ir a María y decirle: “Oh María, sáname si estoy enfermo; restáurame a la vida si estoy muerto; pero sobre todo deja que tu amor maternal me arrope porque quiero ser su hijo.”
También, Mayo es el mes en que queremos expresar nuestro agradecimiento especial y querido amor a nuestra madre terrenal, viva o difunta. El Día de las madres es un tiempo para honrar a todas las madres por su sacrificio y dedicación y dar a luz a todos nosotros en el mundo. A menudo olvidamos de la importancia de las madres para el mundo, a veces tomándolas por sentadas. Las madres son nuestras cuidadoras y maestras, nos guían a través de nuestros primeros pasos de la vida. Son tan importantes que a nuestro Salvador Jesucristo se le dio el don del amor de una madre a lo largo de su vida.
Todos debemos ser agradecidos por estas mujeres en nuestras vidas y la dirección que nos hayan proporcionado. El amor de una madre es una bendición que es ignorada con demasiada frecuencia. Mostremos nuestro agradecimiento por su sacrificio, sabiendo que nuestras vidas son mucho mejores gracias a ellas.
Si usted está bendecido de tener todavía a su madre consigo, tómese el tiempo este día de las madres el próximo fin de semana 8 de mayo para agradecerle por todo lo que ella ha hecho por ti. Madres, disfruten de su día especial. Niños, tómense el tiempo para que este día sea inolvidable para su mamá.
María, Madre de las madres, te honramos en tu mes especial. Ayúdanos a ser siervos como tú y llevar la vida de Jesús dentro de nosotros siempre. Amén.
