Pastoral Christmas Letter
Dear Friends in Christ,
Christmas Greetings! The Bible tells us in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; the young woman, pregnant and about to bear a son, shall name him Emmanuel.” The name Immanuel means “God with us.” While there are many names Jesus has, I think this one reflects the heart of God and the Son more than most. God wanted to show us what His perfect love was like, so He sent His only begotten Son to be “with us.”
It’s wonderful to know that not only is God “with us,” but in addition, God is “for us!” The fact that Jesus came down to be with us in all our difficulties, burdens, trials, and victories indicates He is for us! While He was here on this earth, Jesus would go through things that you and I also go through, but He did so in perfect harmony with the Father. He was tempted like we are. He was hungry and thirsty like we are from time to time. He was rejected like you and me, yet He stayed on track to the cross and, ultimately the tomb and resurrection. Finally, then, He ascended to the throne in heaven, where He intercedes on our behalf.
Hebrews 4:15-16, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.”
During this beautiful time of year called “Christmas,” I pray that we, as a church family, always remember that this season is all about Him! When we do that as a church, we believe that families will do the same. I hope that the joy and beauty of Christ’s love for us all abound in your home and heart this Christmas. Queridos Amigos en Cristo,
¡Felicidades en esta Navidad! La Biblia nos dice en Isaías 7:14: “Pues el Señor mismo les va a dar una señal: La joven está encinta y va a tener un hijo, al que le pondrá por nombre “Emanuel.” El nombre Emmanuel significa “Dios con nosotros.” Aunque Jesús tiene muchos nombres, creo que éste refleja el corazón de Dios y del Hijo más que los otros. Dios quería mostrarnos cómo era su amor perfecto, así que envió a su Hijo unigénito para que estuviera “con nosotros.”
Es maravilloso saber que no sólo Dios está “con nosotros,” sino que, además, ¡Dios está “por nosotros!” El hecho de que Jesús bajara para estar con nosotros en todas nuestras dificultades, cargas, pruebas y victorias, ¡indica que Él está por nosotros! Mientras estuvo aquí en esta tierra, Jesús pasó por cosas por las que tú y yo también pasamos, pero lo hizo en perfecta armonía con el Padre. Fue tentado como nosotros. Tuvo hambre y sed como nosotros. Fue rechazado como tú y como yo, pero se mantuvo en el camino de la cruz y, posteriormente, de la tumba y la resurrección. Finalmente, ascendió al trono del cielo, donde intercede por nosotros.
Hebreos 4:15-16, “Pues nuestro Sumo sacerdote puede compadecerse de nuestra debilidad, porque él también estuvo sometido a las mismas pruebas que nosotros; solo que él jamás pecó. Acerquémonos, pues, con confianza al trono de nuestro Dios amoroso, para que él tenga misericordia de nosotros y en su bondad nos ayude en nuestra hora de necesidad.”
Durante este hermoso tiempo del año llamada “Navidad”, rezo para que nosotros, como familia de la iglesia, siempre recordemos que esta temporada se trata de Él. Cuando hagamos eso como iglesia, creemos que las familias harán lo mismo. Espero que la alegría y la belleza del amor de Cristo por todos nosotros abunden en su hogar y en su corazón esta Navidad. Les deseo una feliz Navidad llena de paz.
