PASTORAL LETTER FOR JANUARY
Dear Friends in Christ,
The Presentation of the Gifts in the Eucharistic celebration is a profound and meaningful moment that reminds us of our potential to do something truly divine as human beings. In this discussion, we will explore the rich symbolism of this ritual and its deep connection to our mission to make the world a better place. Through the simple elements of bread and wine, we express our commitment to live and work as Christ’s representatives on earth, and elevate our understanding of our purpose in life.
At the heart of the Presentation of the Gifts is the transformation of ordinary bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. These elements symbolize the gift of ourselves that we made at our baptism when we were spiritually united to Jesus Christ. By offering these simple gifts, we renew our commitment to embody Christ’s presence and mission on earth. This act reminds us that our purpose in life transcends the daily routine.
When we offer bread and wine for transformation, we go beyond the idea of working just to survive. Instead, we are engaging a profound reality - the “true bread” that comes from heaven and gives life to the world. This reminds us of our pursuit of eternal life as promised by God and awakens us to the spiritual dimension of our actions. It is in this spiritual reality that we find our true meaning in life.
The Eucharist teaches us that God can use ordinary things of the material world to produce divine effects. The simple “fruit of the earth” and the “work of human hands” become the “bread of life,” while the “fruit of the vine” becomes our “spiritual drink.” As we unite our humanity with Christ’s divinity, we become instruments of divine fruitfulness, spreading God’s life through our words and actions. This celebration reminds us that the divine is present in our daily lives.
The bread and wine we present symbolize not only the body and blood of Christ, but also ourselves. As these symbols pass through the congregation, each host represents an individual who offers himself or herself as a living sacrifice, echoing the commitment made at baptism. Our baptism made us partners with Jesus in his mission, and at each Mass we reaffirm our commitment to that mission.
As adults, we accept the mission of Jesus and the mission of the Church. Our baptism consecrates, commits, and empowers us to continue Christ’s work as priest, prophet, and king. To fulfill our role as “prophets in the prophet,” we must profess our faith not only in words, but in our daily actions that reflect the presence of the risen Jesus in us. In this journey, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us bear witness to our divine mission.
Finally, the presentation of the gifts is a powerful reminder of our divine mission on earth. Through symbols and rituals, we pledge to transform ourselves and the world around us. By participating in this sacrament, we acknowledge the true source of life, embrace our role as agents of divine change, and bear witness to our mission as prophets in the Prophet. It is in these moments of offering ourselves as living sacrifices that we fully understand the real world - the world in which God works through us, His human vessels, to bring about divine fruitfulness and eternal life.

La Presentación de los Dones en la celebración Eucarística es un momento profundo y significativo que nos recuerda nuestra posibilidad para hacer algo verdaderamente divino como seres humanos. En esta conversación, vamos a explorar el intenso simbolismo de este ritual y su profunda conexión con nuestra misión para crear del mundo un lugar mejor para vivir. A través del pan y el vino, expresamos nuestra dedicación a vivir y trabajar como representantes de Cristo en la Tierra, para elevar la comprensión de nuestro propósito en la vida.
La parte central de la Presentación de los Dones está en la transformación del pan y el vino en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Estos elementos simbolizan el regalo que hicimos nosotros mismos durante nuestro bautismo, cuando nos unimos espiritualmente a Jesucristo. Al presentar estos sencillos regalos, renovamos nuestro compromiso de encarnar la presencia y la misión de Cristo en la Tierra. Este acto nos recuerda que nuestro propósito en la vida va más allá de la vida diaria.
Cuando ofrecemos la transformación del pan y el vino, superamos nuestras intenciones y no solo para sobrevivir. La Eucaristía nos enseña que Dios puede usar objetos mundanos para crear resultados divinos. El “fruto de la tierra” y el “trabajo del hombre” se convierten en el “pan de vida”, y el “fruto de la vid” se convierte en nuestra “bebida espiritual”. Cuándo unimos nuestra humanidad con la divinidad de Cristo, nos convertimos en instrumentos de fertilidad divina, difundiendo la vida de Dios a través de nuestras palabras y acciones. Esta celebración nos recuerda que lo divino está presente en nuestra vida diaria.
Como adultos, aceptamos la misión de Jesús y la de la Iglesia. Nuestro bautismo nos consagró, comprometió y empoderó para continuar la obra de Cristo como sacerdotes, profetas y reyes. Para cumplir nuestra responsabilidad como “profetas en el Profeta”, debemos profesar nuestra fe no solo con palabras, sino a través de nuestras acciones diarias, reflejando la presencia de Jesús resucitado dentro de nosotros. En esta jornada, recibimos el don del Espíritu Santo para ayudarnos a dar testimonio de nuestra misión divina.
