Pastoral Letter for November

Dear Friends in Christ,

When we stand together to recite the Nicene Creed, it is not merely a routine part of the Mass; it is a powerful declaration of our faith. It is a moment when the entire congregation, diverse in backgrounds and experiences, unites in harmony to profess our shared belief in God. This act transcends the mundane and becomes a spiritual journey, an opportunity to truly connect with our faith.

Consider this: we have minds that allow us to understand complex concepts, and we have wills that empower us to make choices. We are individuals with the remarkable capacity to engage in a profound act of self-expression. When we recite the Creed, we do more than recite words – we actively engage with our faith. We choose to affirm our belief in the Triune God, and in that choice, we define our spiritual identity.

This profession is not merely about the content of our belief; it is about the fact that we believe it. It is a celebration of our shared faith, a faith that transcends time and culture. It is about recognizing the divine gift of faith, a gift that allows us to know what only God can truly know, and to know it in a way that mirrors God’s own understanding. But let’s not limit our profession of faith to the confines of the church walls. Instead of merely focusing on what we profess, let’s immerse ourselves in the act of professing. Let’s rekindle the intensity of our faith, not just in what we believe but in the fact that we believe it. During the Profession of Faith, we should embrace the profound significance of this act. We should allow ourselves to feel the depth of our identity as believers. In this moment, we are not isolated individuals; we are a faith-filled community, standing together in unity. Our faith becomes more than a personal belief; it becomes a collective expression of our shared commitment to God.

As we experience ourselves intensely as believers during the Eucharistic liturgy, it encourages us to confidently show our faith in actions in everyday life. Queridos Amigos en Cristo,

Durante la misa, nos ponemos de pie para recitar el Credo Niceno juntos. El Credo no es una sencilla rutina de la Misa; es una declaración poderosa de nuestra fe. Es un momento en el que toda la congregación, diversa en antecedentes y experiencias, se une en armonía para profesar nuestra fe compartida con Dios. Este acto trasciende lo mundano y se convierte en una jornada espiritual, una oportunidad para conectarnos verdaderamente con nuestra fe. Al recitar el Credo, hacemos más que expresar palabras, participamos intensamente en nuestra fe. Afirmamos nuestra creencia en el Dios Trino y, al hacer esto, definimos nuestra identidad espiritual.

Esta profesión no es tan solo sobre nuestra fe, sino del hecho de que creemos en ella. Es una celebración de la fe que compartimos, una fe que trasciende el tiempo y la cultura. Se trata de reconocer el regalo divino de la fe, un regalo que nos permite reconocer lo que solo Dios puede verdaderamente conocer de una manera que refleja la comprensión de Dios. Esta es la esencia de la fe, la conexión divina que abre nuestros corazones y mentes para descubrir los misterios, descubrir el amor y la gracia de Dios.

En un mundo que seguido se siente desconectado en cuestiones de la fe, la Profesión de Fe se convierte en un poderoso acto de solidaridad. Es testimonio de la naturaleza constante de nuestra fe, una creencia en Dios que ha durado por el transcurso de generaciones, culturas y civilizaciones. Esta fe une a católicos, ortodoxos del oriente, episcopales, luteranos, metodistas, presbiterianos y la mayoría de las denominaciones protestantes bajo el estandarte común de creencias compartidas.

Pero no limitemos nuestra fe a los confines de las paredes de la iglesia. En lugar de poner toda nuestra atención en lo que profesamos, pongamos mucho más energía al acto o hecho de profesar. Reavivemos la intensidad de nuestra fe, no solo en lo que creemos, sino en el hecho de que sí lo creemos. Durante la Profesión de Fe, debemos adoptar el significado profundo de este acto. Debemos sentir la profundidad de nuestra identidad como creyentes. En este momento, no estamos aislados; somos parte de una comunidad llena de fe, de pie juntos en unidad. Nuestra fe es algo más que una fe personal; es una expresión colectiva de nuestro compromiso compartido con Dios.

Cuando vivimos nuestro estado intenso de creyentes durante la liturgia eucarística, debemos mostrar con confianza nuestra fe en nuestras acciones en la vida cotidiana que llevamos en nuestra fe. Recordemos que dondequiera que vayamos, llevamos nuestra fe al trabajo, a la escuela, a nuestras comunidades. Al vivir nuestra fe, nos convertimos en faros de luz en un mundo que busca significado y propósito.
