Pastoral Letter of Easter

Dear Friends in Christ,

The most amazing event in all of history is Jesus' resurrection from the dead, which we celebrate on Easter. It was with this resurrection that Jesus took dominion over that last stronghold: death. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. (Matthew 27:50-53)

It was because of the empty tomb that Mary found that we are able to say with all confidence that we truly serve a living God. With that knowledge comes a responsibility to allow that living God to guide our lives.

“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all. But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead came also through a human being. For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life” (1 Corinthians 15:17-22).

This Easter, let’s all take a look at our lives and our service to God as we remember, with great reverence, the sacrifice that He made and the miracle of His resurrection.

Heavenly Father and God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for He is alive and has become the Lord of life. From the waters of death, you raise us with Him and renew your gift of life within us. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Queridos amigos en Cristo,

El evento que celebramos en la Pascua que es el más maravilloso en toda la historia es la resurrección de Jesús de entre los muertos. Fue por resurrección que Jesús dominó sobre la última fortaleza: la muerte. En ese momento la cortina del templo se rompió en dos partes, de arriba a abajo. La tierra tembló y las rocas se partieron. Las tumbas se abrieron y los cuerpos de muchos santos que habían muerto fueron resucitados. Salieron de las tumbas, y después de la resurrección de Jesús fueron a la ciudad santa y se les aparecieron a muchas personas. (Mateo 27:50-53)

Y por su tumba vacía que María descubrió podemos decir con toda confianza que realmente servimos a un Dios vivo. Con este conocimiento viene la responsabilidad de permitir que ese Dios viviente guíe nuestras vidas.

“Y si no creen que Cristo resucitó, de nada les sirve su fe: ustedes siguen en sus pecados. Y, también aquellos que se durmieron en Cristo quedaron totalmente perdidos. Si nuestra esperanza en Cristo se termina con la vida presente, somos los más infelices de todos los hombres. Pero no, Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos, siendo el primero y primicia de los que se durmieron. Un hombre trajo la muerte, y un hombre también trae la resurrección de los muertos. Todos morimos por estar incluidos en Adán, y todos también recibiremos la vida en Cristo” (1 Corintios 15, 17-22).

Durante esta Pascua, reflejemos sobre nuestras vidas y nuestro servicio a Dios mientras recordamos, con gran reverencia, el sacrificio que Él hizo por nosotros, y el milagro de Su resurrección.

Padre celestial y Dios de misericordia, ya no buscamos a Jesús entre los muertos, porque está vivo y se ha convertido en el Señor de la vida. De las aguas de la muerte nos levantas con él y renuevas tu don de vida dentro de nosotros. Agranda en nuestras mentes y corazones la vida resucitada que compartimos con Cristo, y ayúdanos a crecer como tu pueblo hacia la plenitud de la vida eterna contigo. Te lo pedimos a través de Cristo nuestro Señor. Amén.
